For me, the hardest part of writing is knowing where and how to start.
Good, well now that’s out of the way, what do I need to say “About” me? Initially I thought the answer to this would be “quite a lot”. Perhaps it will help readers and myself, I thought, to know all the background, to know how my views have formed, where I get my daily perspective on life, and so on, and so on.
But then I remembered that the place where I’ve been rambling for getting on ten years – which is supposed to be a football messageboard, albeit one that’s nearly as diverse as the Internet itself – has none of this background; new users simply take as they find, and present themselves through their posts. And I’d say that that’s how I’d like this to go. Assuming anyone reads it at all – which is by no means guaranteed – I’d like them to build up a picture from what’s said rather than from a stated set of principles and beliefs. Some things will become evident quite early, others I probably don’t even know myself yet. And the picture must be changeable, because I’m not a huge fan of retaining an opinion or belief in the face of the evidence.
And anyway, the title of the blog sums it up. It’s how I look at the world – with what I would call a healthy scepticism, a strong desire to uncover the evidence, and a pretty solid knowledge that there is always somebody who knows what is going on much better than I do.
